Free Range Chickens & Turkeys

Beacon Woods Farm & Flowers raises Americauna, Jersey Giants, Rhode Island Reds, Cuckoo Marans, New Hampshires, and black Astralorps. They lay an assortment of egg colors from light brown & dark brown to green and some blue eggs.

Our pasture-raised chickens wander the farm, pecking up bugs, worms, grasses and yummy weeds. This "diet" means that the yolks are bright yellow-orange, the shells are hard, and the flavor exceptional.

This also means that those chickens raised for "processing" have a flavor unsurpassed by anything you can purchase at the store.  And you can be assured that no chemicals, antibiotics, or hormones were used to raise them.

If you are interested in ordering whole processed chickens, we have a limited quantity  available at the farm during early July (and sometimes September). Just let us know of your interest by contacting Farmer Chris.

Is there a difference?

I just love listening to our turkeys gobble-gobble.

For the past three years we have been raising Bourbon Red heritage breed turkeys.  These birds are beautiful, relatively smart (for a turkey), and very humorous.  They mature very slowly and consequently take 50% more feed and pasture than the traditional broad breasted turkey.... which of course makes Bourbon Reds very expensive to raise.

After much deliberation we have decided to transition in 2015 from this delicious heritage bird to raising broad breasted white turkeys.... but raise them on pasture, grasses, fruits, vegetables & bugs so that their flavor is scrumptious. Our hope is to nurture these turkeys to a good weight in a cost effective manner so that we can offer a nice sized pasture-raised turkey come autumn and Thanksgiving.

What's all the hubbub about farm fresh, pasture-raised, free-ranged chicken eggs?

Flavor!    And they are good for you too!

Pasture-raised eggs have 1/3 less cholesterol,  1/4 less saturated fat, 4 times the omega 3 fatty acids, 2/3 more vitamin A, 3 times more vitamin E, 4-6 times vitamin D, and 7 times more beta carotene.

Throughout the year our farm fresh, pasture-raised, free range chickens provide amazingly delicious eggs.  We sell these $3/dozen at the farm.  Feel free to drop by and pick some up.
